The Fashion & Culture Research Lab was started by Kelly Reddy-Best at Iowa State University with a team of her undergraduate and graduate students in order to promote collaborative thinking and learning. Some student members have assistantships, some are her graduate advisees, some are working on independent studies, and others have undergraduate research internships funded through the college.
The lab is based in 1058 LeBaron Hall where the team works on different research projects that analyze the relationships between appearance, fashion, clothing, style, and identity. Our first goal and focus is to research topics related to historically underrepresented (also referred to by some people as minority) individuals and communities. Our second goal is to move the findings from our research beyond the academy through different outlets such as film and public exhibitions.
